What Are Hobbies?

My journey through adulthood thus far has been a rocky one. I have found myself at the lowest of lows, AND the highest of highs. Since 2020. I have used each year to slowly better myself, through self-reflection, mindfulness, research, etc. Each year, I have learned something new about my identity, and I truly believe that I have tried my hardest to be the best possible version of myself. With all that being said, there is still so much more left for me to learn. I still am unsure who I am now that I've grown so much. My hobbies and interests have changed substantially since I was a child, but I really haven't found the time- well, I haven't TAKEN the time I need to figure out what I am interested in NOW. I love a lot of the same things I did growing up, but I haven't explored many different things, or even figured out any goals that I have for myself now. I decided that 2023 was going to be the year I would do that.

We are about six months into the year, and I would say I have made progress with these goals. I have re-discovered my love of reading, which had evaded me the past 4 years or so. I think I just finished my 7th book of the year, which isn't a lot but it's much more than I have read previously. I'm not counting all of the intellectual readings I have done for college, by the way. Only books I'm reading for pleasure. Even though I love learning, my goal was to read more for fun, not information.

Another hobby I picked up was cross-stitching. Never would I have thought that I would love a crafting activity as much as I love cross-stitching. It's so relaxing and fun, I listen to music while doing it, or I tend to watch a show. It is so nice because I give my hands something to do, but I can still enjoy other media. It's the perfect storm for my ADHD. All parts of my brain are working but it is just so relaxing. I have finished 3 projects so far - all of which are Pusheen the Cat related (I'm obsessed with Pusheen). It has been super enjoyable, and I am so glad that I decided to try it out because I really do love it.

Another crafty thing I just starting trying was crochet. I will say though, I am absolutely terrible at it. Why is it so hard???!!! Haha, it's okay though I know I just need to practice more. I've been trying to make my girlfriend a crochet snail for the past 3 months, and it has been a struggle. I've slowly gotten better, but I swear the YouTube videos are NOT helping! I'm excited to keep working at it thought, I want to make it super cute. Wish me luck, and if any of you have any crocheting tips, please, pass it on! I need all the help I can get.

There are lots of little things I've been doing too, like puzzles and playing videogames. Doing puzzles, similarly to cross-stitching, is a great way to occupy my brain while watching a movie, or something else. It's stimulating, and stops me from overthinking. I am able to enjoy myself! Also puzzles are just so satisfying, I love seeing that completed picture when I'm done. It's just so rewarding lol.  I don't know if I would call myself a "gamer" per se, as I only play The Sims 4 and Stardew Valley haha. Occasionally, I'll fumble my way through a Roblox game with my friends. but that's about it. I really do like playing games though. I literally can sit and play the sims for hours and hours without getting bored once.

To conclude, this year I have really made it a goal to explore my interests and learn hobbies that I like. It is so important that we find things we enjoy in our lives, otherwise what is the point, you know? Thankfully, I know many activities that I love to do, and I have finally made the time to discover these things about myself. I will continue with this throughout the rest of this year, and I will let you know what other interests or loves I discover.

This one was short and sweet! Not super interesting, but I wanted to share this goal that I had for 2023, and what I've discovered so far. I plan to write another blog tomorrow. Not sure what about, but I've been writing a lot while I've had downtime at work, so expect lots of writing lol. I'll talk to y'all soon. As always, thanks for reading. I'll see y'all soon.

XOXO
